Hitachi ZW220-6 is the first mid-sized wheel loader in the Dash-6 Series from Hitachi Construction Machinery Loaders America (HCMA, formerly Kawasaki).
Operating weight is 38,910 pounds, and the 200-horsepower loader has a heaped bucket capacity of 4.2 to 4.7 cubic yards. Breakout force is 34,170 pounds, and lift height is 13.5 feet.
Dash-6 machines use an SCR aftertreatment system with diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), which eliminates the need for a diesel particulate filter (DPF). The wheel loaders have more space in the engine compartment, providing easier access for service. The company the new Series reduce fuel cost by up to 7 percent during load-and-carry operations.
The Dash-6 front end loaders feature ride controls, auto power-up, and an LCD color monitor. Global e-Service combines with HCMA’s Consite reporting program to provide remote monitoring, maintenance and daily operation data, and monthly summary reports.
Wheel loader cab features
The pressurized cab is virtually airtight, the company says, keeping out dust and dirt. The Tilt/Telescoping steering pedestal has a pop-up pedal that returns the pedestal to its start position when pressed. The seamless front window, rounded engine cowling, and redesigned ROPS frames provides 360-degree line of sight. Exhaust and intake stacks have been moved to the far rear end of the engine cover, also improving the operator’s view. The rear pillars of the ROPS frame struts are mounted forward and away from the rounded corners of the cab.
A rear-mounted safety camera is standard equipment, along with a proximity detection system providing audible and visual alerts for stationary and moving objects up to 20 feet from the loader.
The transmission has two auto modes and one manual mode. A shift-to-hold switch overrides automatic settings and holds the transmission is its current gear, which provides extra traction or torque. It shuts off when the operator presses the switch or changes direction.
The Power Mode switch gives the operator a 10-percent burst in engine rpm. It works in any automatic or manual range, and provides extra acceleration, rim-pull, and breakout force without limiting the loader’s top speed. Applications include digging into heavy piles, climbing grades under full load, and running speed quickly on flat runs. Power Mode also enhances hydraulic flow to the bucket.
The loader has a parallel/tandem hydraulic circuit, with parallel tilt and lift. The tandem function prioritizes the bucket while dumping, as an automatic return-to-dig function resets the bucket for the next load.
A new rear grill prevents raw material from entering the radiator compartment and protects it from debris. An exhaust-aspirated air cleaner and integrated pre-cleaner removes large particulate matter from the air inlet, eliminating the need for turbine-type pre-cleaner.
