John Deere’s new K-Series wheel loaders span a size range from 2.5 to 7.75 cubic yards, 115 to 330 horsepower. The 644 and larger models are available with an optional five-speed transmission with lock-up torque converter, which Deere claims will improve fuel efficiency 15 to 20 percent in load-and-carry and ramp-climbing work. K-Series loaders come with lockable front differentials and offer optional locking rear differentials. Diffs lock on the roll, and an auto-diff-lock option locks when it senses wheel slip. Joystic steering, an option only on the 844J, is now standard equipment on the 844K and an option on the 544, 644, and 744K models. All K-Series loaders include keyless start, seat-mounted controls, expanded sealed switch module and a new LCD monitor with a multi-function interface. The cab upgrade added 3.5 inches of leg room.
