The EC35D and ECE40D excavators have operating weights of 7,782 and 8,554 pounds, respectively. The D Series updates includes a 30.6-horsepower Tier 4-Final engine that the company says is 5 percent more fuel efficient that predecessors. Break out force has also been improved, to 7,394 lb.-ft., which the company says is 6 percent more for the ED35D and 14 percent more for the ECR40D.

The hydraulic system is matched to the engine, which then automatically produces the right engine speed to maintain hydraulic efficiency, the company says. Intuitive controls include four attachment-specific buttons and servo-hydraulic travel levers/pedals, and both machines have automatic, two-speed travel.

A side-mounted engine provides access to the main compartment, where the engine and hydraulic oil are kept cool by side-by-side coolers that the company says are easy to clean. Hoods open wide to allow access to the filling points for daily checks, and the fuel and hydraulic filling caps are well protected in the rear. Greasing intervals have been extended to 50 hours, and engine oil changes to 500 hours.
