The French company Manitou, once only known here for being the parent company of the Gehl and Mustang brands of compact equipment, has been selling more and more of its red-painted products in North America.
In the last decade, the company has introduced telehandlers, rotating telehandlers, skid steers, CTLs, MEWPs, and articulated loaders to this country. Many of these products hit the European continent first.
Manitou recently introduced new iron for Europe that will make its way here in the next year or two (perhaps with adjusted model numbers), and typical of a European OEM with a commitment to sustainability, some of them are fully electric.
The MT 1440e and MT1840e are powered by a 63-kWh lithium-ion battery. They come standard with integrated 9 kW chargers and are also compatible with Manitou’s 30 kW external rapid charger, new to the company.
“These two high-lift models are the latest additions to our range of 100% electric telehandlers,” said Arnaud Boyer, VP of marketing and development. “Their level of performance enables users to gain in productivity while reducing their total cost of ownership, with a reduction in energy-related costs of almost 75% compared with combustion models.”
The MT 1440e and MT 1840e have lifting heights of 45 and 59 feet, respectively, and an outreach of 42 feet; they are anything but compact. Load capacity is near 4 tons. Ground speed is just over 15 mph.
Manitou said the telehandlers come with a standard two-year warranty, with 70% battery capacity guaranteed after 5 years, and will be available in Europe first from the fourth quarter of 2025.
The MRT 4070 is a new rotating telehandler—the highest in the company’s Vision+ range of rotaries, with a height capacity of 131 feet and a load capacity of 7 tons. The reach is 88 feet. Powered by a 211-horespower engine, it is equipped with a CVT transmission.
