Caterpillar D Series Skid Steers

Sept. 28, 2013

Four replacement models and two updated models comprise the new D series Cat skid steer loader line. The 236D has been redesigned to be a mid-size frame. Large frame models added to the series are the 246D and 262D. The large skid steers, models 272D and 272D XHP, have been given the series’ new cab and a new lift arm design. The cab is of one-piece modular design that allows doubling the cab pressurization in the previous design. The HVAC system supplies 20 percent more airflow and about a 50 percent increase in heating and cooling rates. Lift arms now have a tubular design that improves sight lines. Other cab improvements include an optional high-back, heated, air-suspension seat with integral seat-mounted joystick controls. The Advanced Display control monitor expands the number of security (operator) codes to 50 and can store and recall the operating preferences of that number of operators. An electronic dial-type throttle permits precise rpm settings, the company says, and a new throttle-smoothing feature monitors accelerator-pedal movement under the operator’s foot when the machine is traveling over rough terrain, and it then clips the extremes of pedal travel to yield steady, even travel speeds.
