Bridge Crack Stops Traffic

May 12, 2021

The Interstate 40 bridge linking Arkansas and Tennessee was shut down Tuesday afternoon after authorities said they found a crack in the bottom side of the bridge truss. According to WAND 17, the Arkansas DOT tweeted that it found a crack during a routine inspection of the bridge over the Mississippi River. The department is now working to ensure it is safe before reopening. Drones are currently being used to take a closer look at the crack.

It will be closed through at least Tuesday night.

According to the report, traffic was backed up for miles in both directions due to the closure. River traffic was also shut down.
