The Five Ws of Our Top 100

Dec. 3, 2010

December is a magical month filled with fun, family and friends (of course, there’s a dose of stress associated with the activities that make it so). For us at Construction Equipment, December marks one of our favorite issues as well. We get to highlight a slew of new products that represent the investment from manufacturers; the hard work of their employees; and their collective dedication to improving the construction market, the productivity of machinery, and the efficiency of operators.

We have visited factories and home offices to present awards. We always appreciate meeting the engineers, marketing folks, and those who put the machines together. It reminds us that equipment is more than iron; we’re a community that builds.

For those not familiar with how our Top 100 Products comes to be, here’s a quick overview:

Who selects the products? The editors of the magazine review every single product that ran in print for the past year and make a case for why it should be chosen. It is a group effort, and outside companies have no input in the selections.

What is it? The first awards program in the industry designed to annually recognize the top equipment based on these criteria: advances in technology, new product lines, significant improvements to existing products, or a product that increases competition in its field.

When? Every December since 1990.

Where? Top 100 Products are used on jobsites around the globe.

Why? Our readers manage fleets of construction equipment, trucks and related products. Construction Equipment strives to be the equipment resource dedicated to bring them all the information they need in one place, and the December issue sums up the year’s innovations to help them do their jobs better than the day before.
