Interstate Companies received a prestigious construction award from Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) of Iowa during the association's annual Excellence in Construction banquet, held recently in West Des Moines. The event recognized member companies and individuals.

"Each year, this competition raises the bar for merit shop contractors," says ABC of Iowa President and CEO Greg Spenner. "The award-winning projects represent what merit shop contractors have to offer — projects of the highest quality, built safely, on-time, and within budget."

ABC of Iowa presented Interstate Companies with a 2008 Project of the Year Award in the Electrical-Commercial & Industrial Over $2 Million category. The award recognized the company's work on Panda Ethanol Plant in Hereford, TX. Criteria for the award included complexity of the project, attractiveness, unusual challenges, innovation, safety, and budget compliance.

Robert W. Shaw, president and CEO, Shaw Electric Inc., Davenport, received The Larry Meisner Contractor of the Year Award. Shaw has been an ABC of Iowa member for 24 years and in the industry for 30 years.

Larry Franks, Frye Builders & Associates Inc., Muscatine, was the recipient of The 2008 Bill Yeager Craft Professional of the Year Award. Franks, a carpenter for a quarter of a century, received this award for exhibiting excellence in the trade and for his ability to handle difficult assignments while demonstrating a commitment to jobsite safety, fostering a team environment, and exercising his leadership abilities by transferring his skills, knowledge and experience to others.
