Dressta's basic 530E wheel loader, which features a Komatsu diesel engine, an electronically controlled powershift transmission and standard air conditioning, has a list price of around $190,000.

Dressta North America, headquartered in Buffalo Grove, Ill., may well consider its 530E the flagship of its wheel-loader line, which ranges from the 103-hp 510E, to the 415-hp 560C. According to Dressta, the 530E, with 195 flywheel horsepower and buckets from 3.7 to 5.9 cubic yards, "is an innovative machine designed with features and specifications to compete with any machine in its class."

Powering the 530E is a six-cylinder, 8.3-liter Komatsu S6D114E-1 diesel engine, developing 636 pounds-feet of torque at 1,500 rpm. The engine drives through a single-stage/single-phase torque converter that is integral with an electronically controlled, 4F/3R powershift transmission, which allows either automatic or manual gear changing. The 530E's axles feature inboard planetary final drives and limited-slip differentials, along with outboard-mounted, multi-disc wet brakes with separate axle-by-axle operation.

The machine's implement hydraulic system, with a relief-valve setting of 3,000 psi, uses three vane-type pumps that deliver 72 gpm. Working equipment is controlled by a single-lever, pilot-operated joystick that is designed for low-effort operation and incorporates an integral kick-down button for efficient loading.

The 530E's quiet, comfortable cab features lots of glass, including a large "wrap-around" tinted windshield that enhances the operator's peripheral view. In addition, says the company, the rear-frame-mounted operator's station features an electronic monitoring system, standard air conditioning, and a steering column that both tilts and telescopes. For added comfort in load-and-carry applications, an optional ride-control system is available. Serviceability features include ecology drains, plus large gull-wing side panels and a flip-up rear hood that combine to provide easy access to routine service points.

Optional attachments include a ground-driven, auxiliary steering system, a fender kit, and a tool-carrier quick coupler that includes a three-spool hydraulic valve and related piping. The 530E offers a wide range of bucket sizes and types, including a 3.7-cubic-yard multi-purpose and a 5.9-cubic-yard coal and light-material version.

Dressta, as you may know, is the joint venture of Komatsu America International and Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW). The company markets and supports construction equipment manufactured at HSW in Poland through three subsidiary companies, including Dressta North America, which maintains an extensive network of independent distributors. The Dressta product range for North America includes a wide selection of standard and special-application crawler dozers (up to 520 horsepower), a 142-hp crawler loader, and seven wheel loaders.
