Two men were killed when a trench collapsed during the construction of a septic tank in Long Island, New York, according to a report by the New York Post. Workers were digging a hole for the tank at a home when the walls caved in.

According to the report, the men landed 30 feet inside of the hole, and were covered by up to seven feet of wet dirt and sand.

According to NBC New York, rescue crews used their hands and shovels to dig one of the men out of the trench. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Crews were unable to reach the other man. Efforts to retrieve him were postponed due to darkness late Tuesday night.
