Operating a horizontal directional drill traditionally means exposing a few workers to the full brunt of outdoor conditions. Well, with its D330x500 Navigator, Vermeer offers a redesigned and reconfigured self-contained operator's station that allows an operator to comfortably run the large-diameter drilling unit, which produces 50,000 foot-pounds of rotational torque. All functions including transport, drilling controls, craning and drilling-fluid controls are operated from the cab.

All functions including transport, drilling controls, craning and drilling-fluid controls are operated from the cab. The D330x500 delivers 330,000 pounds of thrust/pullback force — or 30,000 more than the predecessor model. Estimated list price: $900,000 to $1,000,000.
