Topcon added the X62 and X42 excavating control solutions to make basic laser grade control of excavators more affordable. The X62 includes core sensor infrastructure to precisely track bucket-tooth position, so it can easily be upgraded to three-dimensional GPS control at a cost of about $40,000. Operators interact with the system via the GX-60 touch-screen graphical display. The X42 supplies basic indication of bucket-cutting-edge depth. The new GX-40 graphical display has a keypad, and a detachable light bar indicates the bucket's position relative to the desired depth. An optional laser receiver can be added to both units for about $1,700, enabling the systems to read a constant laser benchmark. Estimated list price, X62 and X42: $20,000 and $17,000, respectively.
