Glen Edwards, a 65-year-old crane operator, is being hailed as a hero for rescuing a man from a burning building in Reading, Berkshire, UK, last week.
A video obtained from social media and published by the BBC shows the man standing on the corner of a roof seemingly surrounded by flames and billowing smoke. The video shows a rescue basket being maneuvered to him, enabling him to climb in. Edwards then lifted the basket up and away from the flaming building.
In a subsequent BBC interview, Edwards said he was preparing to exit his tower crane after hearing fire alarms when he saw the stranded man. He said smoke obscured his view as he was positioning the basket so that men on the ground had to guide him via radio communication, and swirling winds made it difficult to maneuver the basket.
