Top 100: Hydrostatic SuperDrive Replaces Truck Gears

Sept. 28, 2010

The SuperDrive CVT System couples hydraulic-drive technology with modern electronic controls to produce a continuously variable drive system for on-highway trucks. It requires no clutch, gearbox, or torque converter. SuperDrive says the system reduces fuel consumption in stop-and-go duty. The hydraulic drive replaces engine braking with hydrostatic braking, and PTO drive with hydrostatic accessory drive. Estimated list price: $15,000 to $25,000 more than the drive-train equipment it replaces.
