Parkway Equipment Sustains $110,000 in Arson, Vandalism Damage

Construction equipment at the Meadowcreek Parkway in Charlottesville, Va., sustained about $110,000 in damages due to arson and vandalism at a staging site. The equipment, including a backhoe, was parked on Melbourne Road near the Charlottesville High School football field, officials said, away from where construction has started off East Rio Road.

City fire personnel responded to a call on Tuesday at 9:56 p.m. for a blaze involving the equipment, and the city fire marshal conducted a preliminary investigation after it was thought the equipment was located on Charlottesville land.
