Texas DOT Seeks Input on EV Infrastructure Plan

June 17, 2022

The Beaumont Enterprise reports that the Texas Department of Transportation is seeking public comment on an electric vehicle infrastructure plan that would add hundreds of new charging stations statewide.

Texas will receive a total of $407.8 million in federal funding between fiscal years 2022-2026 from the infrastructure bill passed in November 2021 to execute the plan.

Governor Greg Abbott directed TxDOT executive director Marc Williams in a March 2022 letter to use the plan to “focus on rural placement and connectivity.” The governor specifically mentioned allowing electric vehicle drivers to be able to travel from “Beaumont to El Paso and Texline to Brownsville.”

“Texas’ sheer volume of roadway miles leaves ample opportunity for EV charging deployment,” Abbott wrote in the letter. “The plan should ensure that every Texan can access the infrastructure they need to charge an EV.”
