The Associate General Contractors of South Dakota and South Dakota Department of Transportation are looking to get people involved in construction. With Covid-19 making it tough for people to find jobs, the demand for construction workers in South Dakota is huge, according to Kekoland South Dakota.
According to the report, there are roughly 24,000 people in the essential construction industry today. Many are nearing or currently at retirement age.
This month, virtual training sessions have begun for anyone who is interested in a construction position in SD.
“Anywhere from being flaggers, pilot car individuals, working on the sides of the road, and growing actually within the industry, and doing heavy equipment operators,” Chief Administrative Officer of Project Solutions Kathelene Thurman said.”
Session coordinator Kathelene Thurman says you don’t need an education to sign up. The only thing they require are "dedicated workers." The jobs are not intended to be fill-in positions, but the start of a career with opportunity to grow.
The 40-minute live classes will run on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 10 a.m.
