A new option for Roadtec asphalt paving equipment is designed to manage the settling of the screed only when the paver is stopped, thus preventing the screed from causing a dent in the mat. Screed Boost will be of additional benefit to rubber-tired pavers, on which the tires compress or squat, causing the screed to descend and leading some people in the industry to conclude it is more difficult to achieve the same mat smoothness from a wheeled paver, says Roadtec. Screed Boost pressurizes the bottom of the screed lift cylinders during stops. When the paver starts back into motion, Screed Boost shuts off and the screed returns to free float.
