Technologies from Quixote Transportation Safety's subsidiaries, Surface Systems and Energy Absorption, are combined to produce a Road/Runway Weather Information System (RWIS). The system gathers weather data. When conditions warrant, it activates a de-icing function, dispensing a de-icing agent on surfaces where icing and bad weather result in dangerous conditions. RWIS sites contain surface sensors embedded in the pavement that measure both pavement and atmospheric conditions.
