GlobalTRACS, an equipment-management system from QUALCOMM, transmits engine hours and machine location at regular intervals, or on demand, via Internet applications or via integration into existing business systems. Potential benefits include identifying underutilized machines, monitoring labor productivity, increasing field-maintenance effectiveness and protecting against theft. Automatic alerts signal that a machine has moved beyond pre-set boundaries ("geo-fences"). Users can administer geo-fences and monitor equipment location on street-level maps via the Internet.
