Lull's PlaceAce System Replaces TransAction

Sept. 28, 2010

The first two telehandler models in OmniQuip Textron's new PlaceAce Series are the Lull 644E-42 and 944E-42. Lull telehandlers have long been known for their TransAction load-placement system, giving them the ability to retract or extend the lifting system on a horizontal track. The new PlaceAce system builds on that tradition, providing an 80-inch movement that gives the telehandlers greater load-placement range without repositioning the machines.

The new frame design incorporates a single piece of steel from the front of the machine to the back, creating a stronger structure overall. The frame also was redesigned to allow for the placement of the engine from the rear to the side for improved visibility. Added to this are enhanced hydraulic joystick controls that add precision to load placement and speed to cycle times.

Specifics on the 644E-42 include enhanced cab ergonomics that improve ease of operation, a maximum overall height of 95.5 inches that makes it possible to use the machine in low-clearance situations, and a reduced turning radius of 12 feet 3 inches. An improved engine-air-filtration system delivers better uptime rates and reduced maintenance requirements.

The full-time planetary four-wheel drive delivers constant traction, coupled with inboard-mounted internal wet disc brakes. Further adding to productivity is the top travel speed of 20 mph and a 12-degree frame tilt.

As with the Lull 644E-42, the larger 944E-42 has the benefit of joystick controls and the PlaceAce system and planetary four-wheel drive. In addition, it comes equipped with the Stabil-Trak system, which provides increased stability during operation by locking up all wheels. OmniQuip says that this doubles the stability area of the machine, giving the operator more flexibility in positioning the load. The 944E-42 also has a turning radius of 12 feet 3 inches, plus a wheelbase of 131 inches and a ground clearance of 16 inches.

Both machines have a three-section, telescopic boom featuring welded box construction with replaceable high-density wear pads with wear indicators. Standard tires are non-ballast, air-only types, although optional foam-filled tires are available. Other features are cab enclosure options, light packages, and suspension seats. Fenders are standard on the 944E-42 and optional on the 644E-42.

A number of attachments are available, including pallet, lumber and block forks; truss booms with or without the winch; augers; a concrete bucket; and light material bucket.
