To redesign the SiteStarlube truck, Iowa Mold Tooling switched from steel to polyethylene tanks to reduce tank weight by 80 percent — approximately 1,856 pounds, says IMT. The weight savings allowed for increased storage space and an overall lighter vehicle weight. Poly-tank design promotes contamination control, and with no welding required, the tanks lack stress points that can cause leaks. Although IMT increased standardization in overall design, the truck offers more configuration flexibility than previous models — with the tanks having 264 options. Estimated list price: $80,000.
