According to Orthman Manufacturing, its GradeMate Precision Scraper, a laser-leveling system, can reduce fine-grading costs by as much as 30 percent. The GradeMate uses a special hitch, designed to provide enhanced control and maneuverability, compared with a convention three-point hitch. The scraper bowl carries 1.3 cubic yards of material, and a rear roller compacts the surface, eliminates tire tracks, and stabilizes the scraper. The unit is designed to maintain grade tolerances to within 18 inch. Estimated list price: $18,000–$20,000.
