The October EquipmentWatch INDEX includes a quick snapshot of price, volume and age trends observed during September 2014. The INDEX is a free monthly resource for critical thinkers in the construction equipment industry to make better informed heavy equipment decisions around price, market share and equipment age metrics. The INDEX is compiled by our analysts and fueled by more than 500,000 data points from our Green Guide and Last Bid Online.

Over the past month, here are a few highlights of what we've observed:

Construction Equipment

- Price decreases were the standard nationwide, with the exception of much of the Southeast.

- The Midwest showed substantial gains in volume, with Wisconsin leading the pack

- This month saw average age of resale equipment getting younger, with 4-Wd Articulated Wheel Loaders dropping 1.1 years.

Lift Trucks

- The Northeastern part of the USA showed the biggest decline in prices.

- The number of lift trucks entering the market increased by 14.2%.

- Montana’s average selling price increase by $10,000 due to plenty of high end Telescopic Boom Rough Terrain Lift trucks on the market.

Agricultural Equipment

- Nationwide, volume increased 5% compared to August.

- Prices fell everywhere except the Southwest, where average asking prices increased by 0.7%.

- The average age of equipment on the resale market in September decreased by 2 months.

On-Highway Truck

- Overall, private market units didn’t see much change, but there was high volatility within states.

- Auction volume nearly doubled for trucks in September.

- Freightliner, International, and Kenworth all saw increases in the average age for both resale and auction trucks.
