With the Terrain Leveler attachment, Vermeer's T1255 Commander trencher can cut a 12-foot swath through rock up to 30 inches deep. A Caterpillar C16 diesel powers the hydrostatic attachment. Its head cuts down on the rock, leaving larger spoil with fewer fines. A patent is pending on the tilt-head system, which allows 5 degrees of tilt to either side so the machine can cut a level grade. Estimated price: $1.5 million.
