Boom Failure Injures 5 in Manhattan

The boom truck's boom broke off and fell across the job site.

The boom of a boom truck broke as it was extended and lifting a load in Manhattan. Photos show the boom lying on the ground.

According to the New York City Fire Department, five workers were injured in the incident, one of which was serious. Dozens of workers were on the site at the time, according to news reports.

The truck was lifting a load of plywood when the boom broke.
