Top 100: 400-Amp Built to Beat Rust

Sept. 28, 2010

Lincoln Electric's SAE 400 Severe Duty is built for welding off-shore and in other highly corrosive places. The guts include a 400-amp, pure DC generator with Perkins power, and the case and internal parts are either hot-dip galvanized or stainless steel. Brush-holder assemblies are stainless, and the radiator, fuel tank, generator laminations and wire connections are coated. Switches are sealed, spark arrester is standard, and an engine air shutoff meets requirements for off-shore oil and gas work. Estimated price: $15,820.
