GUCA Scholarship Foundation Awards Scholarships

The GUCA Scholarship Foundation recently presented a number of scholarships to GUCA members' children.

Industry Scholarships

This year the GUCA Scholarship Foundation introduced a new scholarship opportunity, the Industry Scholarship, for GUCA members' children who are students in construction and/or building construction programs. The Foundation presented two Industry Scholarships for 2008 of $2,000 each.

Industry Scholarships

This year the GUCA Scholarship Foundation introduced a new scholarship opportunity, the Industry Scholarship, for GUCA members' children who are students in construction and/or building construction programs. The Foundation presented two Industry Scholarships for 2008 of $2,000 each.

One Industry Scholarship recipient was Darren Higginbotham, son of Grady Leon and H. Irene Higginbotham, Archer Western Contractors Ltd., Duluth, GA. Darren is currently attending Southern Polytechnic State University and majoring in construction management. His goal is to become the lead estimator.

The second Industry Scholarship went to Thomas Terry, son of Tommy and Terry Terry, Southern Champion Construction, Pooler, GA. Thomas is currently attending East Georgia College majoring in construction management. His goal is to become the president of a large utility construction company.

High School Seniors Scholarships

The Foundation also presented 10 high school senior scholarships for 2008. Recipients included the following:

  • Jarrod Allen, son of Rhea and Ceasar Allen, Southern Safety Services, Hampton, GA.
  • Kia Beech, daughter of Edna Beech, Garney Construction, Marietta, GA.
  • Megan Blackwell, daughter of Tracey and Thomas Blackwell, Godwin Pumps, Kennesaw, GA.
  • Derek Buffardi, son of Derek C. and Martha J. Buffardi, Godwin Pumps, Kennesaw, GA.
  • Tommie Burch, son of Gwen and Tony Burch, Douglas Electrical and Plumbing Company, Douglas, GA.
  • Chris Cooley, son of Shirley and Gary Cooley, Rockdale Pipeline, Inc., Social Circle, GA.
  • William Criswell, son of Roxann and Lonnie Criswell, DeKalb Pipeline Company, Covington, GA.
  • Justin Forrester, son of Wade and Debbie Forrester, Yancey Bros. Co., Fayetteville, GA.
  • Spencer Lowe, son of Eddie and Suzanne Lowe, HD Supply Waterworks, Macon, GA.
  • Jeno Pelerose, son of Gene and Ann Pelerose, Willow Construction, Inc., Newnan, GA.

The GUCA Scholarship Foundation is funded by proceeds from the Scholarship Foundation Skeet Shoot, Fun Run and private donations.
