Ford, GM Cut Pickup Production Again for Chips

Ford and General Motors announced further cuts in pickup truck production in response to the ongoing shortage of microchips.

Ford pickup truck production cuts

  • Ford will extend the current shutdown at its Kansas City plant through the week of September 6. It makes Ford F-150 pickup trucks there.
  • Ford will run only one shift at its Dearborn, Michigan, F-150 plant next week.
  • Ford will run only two shifts at its Kentucky plant, where it makes Super Duty pickup trucks.

GMC pickup truck production cuts

  • GM will shut it Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Silao, Mexico plants, where it makes Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks, for the week of September 6.
  • GM will shut its Wentzville, Missouri, plant for two weeks beginning the week of September 6, where it builds Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks
