Volvo created a full-suspension option with shock absorbers and automatic leveling and stability control for the A35E and A40E — largest of its new E-Series articulating haulers. Volvo says the FS models can traverse rough terrain safely at speeds up to 34 miles per hour. Capacities increased — the A35E by a ton, and the A40E by two tons. The new Volvo D16 engine in the A40E boasts 12 percent more power and 19 percent more torque than the engine in the A40D. The A35E now comes with wet disc brakes. Volvo improved gear-ratio overlap in the new automatic, nine-speed transmission for more consistent power transfer. These models also have new frames, axles and a new drop box with longitudinal differential and 100 percent lock up.
