A lightweight engine starter is now available on Freightliner Class 8 trucks and tractors. It uses planetary gear reduction, which allows a smaller electric motor to crank effectively—especially in cold temperatures. Soft-start engagement and noiseless design that reduces entry of contaminants are among its standard features. It is available in models to fit medium- and heavy-duty diesels.
