Wyo. Lawmakers OK $219M Max Cap on Capitol Restoration

July 19, 2016

This is a refreshing idea - Wyoming legislators voted and approved a $219 million guaranteed maximum price to restore the state capitol building in Cheyenne.

A consultant was brought in to study the condition of the Capitol and Herscher buildings, what repairs and restoration really needs to be done, and gave the Capitol Building Restoration Oversight Group a price. Cheyenne Republican Senator Tony Ross is group co-chairman and says the price came in about $50,000 under budget.

Ross says the investigation saves money by removing doubt up front about the extent of necessary restoration.

Wyoming Governor Matt Mead will consider final approval of the price Wednesday.
