WPS Breaks Ground For New Rhinelander Service Center

September 28, 2010

In mid-August, electric and natural gas provider Wisconsin Public Service(WPS) broke ground for its new environmentally designed service center in Rhinelander, WI.

The 76,000-square-foot, multipurpose building is targeting LEED Gold certification, and WPS plans to showcase it as an excellent example of a high-performance, energy-saving, economic building.

Hoffman, LLC, Appleton, WI, is the designer, and Miron Construction Co., Neenah, WI, is construction manager.

Construction started in September, with the building due to be enclosed in December and completed next June.

Its key “green” features include an integrated approach to design that considers the interaction of the building shell, lighting and mechanical systems; high-performance lighting; carpet and other products with recycled content; waterless urinals and dual-flush toilets; use of native vegetation to help conserve water, reduce maintenance and improve the surrounding environment; and the recycling of more than 75 percent of the construction waste.
