Worker Dies in Excavator Accident

A construction worker was killed when an excavator dumping gravel slid into the ditch where he was working.

A construction worker was killed when an excavator dumping gravel slid into the ditch where he was working, reports MLive.

"Investigation revealed a worker was dumping stone into a ditch when the excavator he was operating slid into the ditch," said Special 1st Lt. David Kaiser of Michigan State Police Tri-City told MLive. "The excavator slid into the ditch striking a fellow construction worker, fatally injuring him."

The deceased is 40-year-old Jason Robert Schwartzly who was employed by a private company to work on an upgrade of Delta College’s west parking lot, reports MLive.

The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) is investigating the incident.
