The American Society for Concrete Contractors awarded Wayne Brothers, Inc. of Kannapolis its prestigious Safety Award for safety improvement during the society’s annual convention in September. John Ashworth, vice president of Field Operations, was in attendance to accept the award.
To date, Wayne Brothers, Inc. has worked in excess of 350,000 man hours with no lost-time accidents. The company is recognized within the concrete construction industry for its rigorous safety policy.
Safety Supervisor Mike Picciano cites the recent work at NGK Ceramics in Mooresville, NC, as a prime example of the success of the company’s safety initiatives. In spite of limited access, the potential hazardous atmosphere due to limited ventilation, and deep foundation and pit excavation, Picciano explained, “Wayne Brothers placed a total of 650 cubic yards of concrete and worked a total of 6,000 man hours without a single injury on the project.”
