Video: Tough Crosstown Construction Commute

Authorities said this was the first time anyone had been pulled over for 'extreme carpooling'.

May 09, 2017

In late April, police in the southern Chinese city of Chonqing noticed a white van weaving in and out of traffic, narrowly missing other vehicles.

When they pulled the van over, they found good reason to ticket the driver for overloading a vehicle. It was packed with 40 construction workers heading for a building site on the other side of the city near the Chaotianmen Bridge. There were so many people inside that they kept bumping into the driver, causing the van to swerve down the road. The driver said this kind of thing was common on the job site.

The driver was ticketed and the van impounded.
