Novel way to fix skilled construction worker shortage

April 11, 2017

The red and white stripes on the Ozinga Bros mix trucks are a common sight in the Chicago and Milwaukee areas, and now the company is using its familiar colors as a visual cue for their new "Trade Up: Join the Stripes" campaign to attract more workers to a career in the construction industry.

The multimedia campaign targets workers in other industries who may be open to a new career and may not have felt their skills would match a job in construction. Company president, Marty Ozinga, says the Trade Up campaign is part a challenge for people to take a chance on something new, and part homage to American workers.

Quoted in ChicagoConstructionNews.com, Ozinga said, "We need to demonstrate to young people that American construction and manufacturing jobs are not just an option, but a lucrative and fulfilling career."
