KRON4-TV reports flames from the burning 40-unit condominium building in the last stages of construction could be seen for miles. Oakland Fire Department said the four-alarm fire started just after 5 a.m. in the 329 Lester Avenue in Oakland's Lake Merritt district. Nearby buildings were evacuated.
The 6,528-square-foot building was under renovation and set to re-open in a few months. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
