Researchers at UC Santa Barbara were able to create three-dimensional images of the objects behind a brick wall in a series of experiments using a pair of drones.
Working together, the drones circumnavigate a structure (a brick building in the video) with one UAV transmitting a continuous Wi-Fi signal while the other measures the strength of the signal after it passes through the structure.
With that data, the drones can generate a hi-res 3D image of what is inside the structure.
Applications for this technology might be search-and-rescue efforts, archaeology, or monitoring unstable buildings.
