Video: Albuquerque Scammed Out of $420K by Fake Contractor

Monday, New Mexico state auditor Tim Keller warned city leaders in Albuquerque about a sophisticated scam being perpetrated in the state after the Socorro, New Mexico school district was defrauded out of $200,000 by a fake construction contractor last week.

On Thursday, Albuquerque's payroll cut a check for $420,000 payable to a scammer posing as a construction contractor who had billed the city for a project.

How? Duplicate invoices, different account numbers, and a smooth scam artist.
