The first of three containment vessel rings was lowered into place at Unit 4 of the Plant Vogtle nuclear plant expansion project near Waynesboro, Ga., reports World Nuclear News.

Each containment ring weighs 1.9 million pounds, which requires the use of a tower crane. Construction started on the project in 2013, and work at the two-reactor expansion is expected to be completed in 2020.
