Hydraulic bucket couplers have revolutionized trenching production by allowing an excavator operator to easily change tools to suit the work at hand. In several tragic cases, though, buckets not properly secured in a quick coupler have fallen and killed or injured people on the ground. The lives of laborers depend on the operator confirming that the coupler has firmly engaged the bucket pins after EVERY bucket change.
It's simple: Set the teeth into the ground over the excavator's side and apply enough down pressure to raise one track off the ground. Use gentle stick-out and bucket-dump pressure to be sure the coupler is tight. If the bucket doesn't pop out of the coupler, it should stay in place.
