Two landscaping workers digging a ditch for a drainage pipe in Morris County, N.J., were killed when the trench collapsed, according to NJ.com.

One worker became trapped when the 10-foot-deep trench gave way. Another worker attempted to save him and also became trapped, the report says. A third worker became trapped up to his legs, but was able to escape.

The two men in the trench were trapped for “several hours” before rescue workers recovered their bodies.
