Top 100: Electronic Engine Upgrades Graders

Sept. 28, 2010

Boosting horsepower in all models was just the beginning of enhancements that the electronically controlled 3176 ETA engine brings to Cat's 140H, 160H, and 14H motor graders. All of the machines have variable horsepower, which restricts power when traction is limited and increases it in higher gears. The 3176 ETA delivers 9 percent more torque than the previous engine and 5 to 10 percent better fuel efficiency. Cat says the H-Series graders are the first in the industry with automotive-style cruise control (Electronic Throttle Control). Estimated price (for 140H): $229,720.
