Tires That Vibrate

Sept. 28, 2010

There's nothing really unusual about a vibratory roller, nor about a pneumatic-tired roller. But combine the two modes of compaction, as did Sakai in its new GW750 vibratory pneumatic roller, and an unusual machine results. Not unusual, says Sakai, but unique, because it is the only machine that combines the productivity of a vibratory roller with the kneading action of a pneumatic-tired roller, making it suitable for use on all types of asphalt mixes, as well as on soil. The roller provides a total overlapped-coverage width of 77 inches. Estimated list price: $128,000.
