The Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) — a non-profit international organization that serves to expand and improve the use of tilt-up as the preferred construction method — has announced the debut of the industry's first Safety Achievement Awards.

Presented at TCA's convention, held in Denver Oct. 4–7, the Safety Achievement Awards program was developed to enhance the TCA's overall Achievement Awards program, providing a new component emphasizing safety.

TCA divided the awards program into three specific categories:

  • Best Tilt-Up Safety Achievement Award: recognizes the firm with the lowest incident rate in 2005. Since there were several firms achieving a zero incident rate, the award was given to the company with the highest number of annual work hours.
  • Zero Lost time Accident Achievement Award: provided to all submitting companies who achieved an incident rate of zero for 2005.
  • Certificate of Recognition: awarded to all companies whose incident rate fell below the national average for structure contractors, a number that was made available by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In Construction's region, a Zero Lost Time Accident Achievement Award went to Morgan-Keller, Inc. in Frederick, Md.

A Certificate of Recognition went to Centurion Construction Company, Raleigh, N.C.; Morgan-Keller, Inc., Frederick, Md.; and Nielson Builders, Inc., Harrisonburg, Va.
