Subcontractor Discusses Safety on Copper Lounge Collapse

Worker speaks out about safety conditions at Sioux Falls demolition job

December 07, 2016

After the Copper Lounge building collapsed last Friday in downtown Sioux Falls, South Dakota, city inspectors said Hultgren Construction did not have the required permit to make structural changes. When the contractor began to remove a load-bearing wall that stood between the Copper Lounge Building and the next building south, the wall gave way killing worker Ethan McMahon and trapping Emily Fodness under the rubble for three hours.

As OSHA continues its investigation into the building collapse, a subcontractor working on the building has come forward to talk with local television station Keloland TV about safety issues at the Hultgren jobsite.
