Smith-Midland Corp., manufacturer of the J.J. Hooks® barrier connection system, announces its involvement in a major Maryland Transportation Authority project at the I-95/I-695 interchange near Baltimore. Smith-Midland will provide 35,000 linear feet of precast concrete barrier featuring the patented J.J. Hooks® connection system, a contract worth over $1 million.

The project will construct express toll lanes, to be known as "hot lanes," to facilitate traffic movement at the I-95/I-695 interchange. The total cost of the project, which is a Wagman/Corman/McLean joint venture, is estimated to be more than $200 million.

Production of the barrier has begun at Smith-Midland's Midland, Va., plant, and installation will begin in January 2007. Smith-Midland will produce 3,000 linear feet of barrier per week and deliver up to 4,000 linear feet per day.
