Fredonia, KS— The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) has announced plans for a roundabout at the intersection of U.S. 400 and K-47 at Fredonia. KDOT awarded LaForge & Budd Construction Co. Inc., Parsons, KS, the $2.8-million contract to build the roundabout.

A roundabout is a circular intersection in which entering motorists yield the right-of-way to vehicles approaching from the left. Studies have shown that roundabouts significantly reduce traffic delays and accidents, and also reduce vehicle fuel consumption and emissions.

The roundabout is expected to be completed in late 2009.
