Americans recognize the need for and value of a strong highway system and are willing to pay to improve it, according to research conducted by Zogby International for ARTBA.

Nearly two-thirds of Americans would support an increase of 2 cents per gallon in the federal gas tax if the money it generated was used exclusively to improve roads, bridges and mass transit, the poll reports. According to ARTBA, each penny increase would bring in about $1.5 billion dollars.
